School Holiday Highlights

Published on 29 June 2018

Worried about the kids feeling cooped up these school holidays? Woodgrove’s School Holidays program will keep their minds and bodies active and wear out that excess energy in no time. Curious kids will be rewarded at our Little Life Lab science and biology workshops while creative souls can find an audience with our busking program. Find out more about what’s happening during the school holidays below.

Kids are invited to dive head first into the world of science and biology with two weeks of workshops hosted by award-winning scientist Dr Lorien Parker (aka Dr Loz). In Our Amazing Bodies, Dr Loz will guide kids through the workings of the human body's immune system and digestion, while highlighting the importance of healthy eating.

The Protecting the Planet sessions will see Dr Loz armed with her giant bubble maker as she shows how bubbles beat balloons in protecting the environment. Kids will also discover nature’s incredible colour spectrum and learn how to extract pigments from natural ingredients including beetroot and spinach.

Movie marathon

We’d be shocked if the kids aren’t already nagging you to take them to see Incredibles 2 (now showing). The sequel to 2004’s wildly popular The Incredibles sees the superhero family back in action facing a new foe who seeks to turn public opinion against society’s supers.

Older kids after some action will enjoy Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (now showing), which follows Owen and Claire as they return to Isla Nubar four years after the theme park closed down. On their trip to save the dinosaurs, they discover that an active volcano is threatening to extinguish all life on the island.

Get ready for another Marvel epic: Ant Man & The Wasp. Continuing on from the events of Captain America: Civil War, our protagonist Scott Lang (Ant-Man) is a now under house arrest, struggling with his home life and responsibilities as Ant-Man. Of course, it’s not long before he’s called into an urgent mission, donning the suit once again.

Hotel Transylvania 3: A Monster Vacation (out 28 June) will have the youngest ones laughing out loud. The film begins with everyone’s favourite monster family embarking on a summer holiday. It’s all smooth sailing on the cruise until the characters discover a dangerous secret that could destroy all of monsterkind.

Coffee with a Cop

Bring the young ones along for a casual catch up with local Melton police. If they’re curious about what it’s like to be a police officer, this is the perfect setting to find out more. Plus, there’s a free coffee for everyone who attends.
