History
QIC purchased the independently owned, Melton Regional Shopping Centre in 1997, and redeveloped
the centre in 1998.
QIC was warmly welcomed by local shoppers eager for a substantial retail precinct, when purchased
and rebuilt in 1998. After introducing the Woodgrove brand name, QIC improved the centre with key
offerings, including Coles, Kmart, and Reading Cinemas. Also supported by two mini-majors –
the Reject Shop and Best & Less, QIC also established a further 75 specialty stores.
With an annual population growth of approximately 12%, The Shire of Melton includes the Township
of Melton, Rockbank, Caroline Springs and Taylors Hill. The Township of Melton itself has an annual
population growth of more than 7% with projections for the year 2011 to reach 112,615, representing
an annual average growth rate of 7.86% since the 2001 census*.
Spread across a retail GLA of 22,000m2, Woodgrove continues to be the dominant retail precinct in
the greater Melton region.
